Government and Politics
Modern Senate
Until 0 PS Saltha was an often tyrannical monarchy. After the revolution and overthrowing of king Kakal I, a parliamentary democracy as put in place. The event was so major, they changed the way years are kept track to commemorate it. The goverment is divided into three different senates. The district and national senate also have a presiding elected executive.
Each city has anywhere from 5 to 25 senators, depending on size, equaling approximately 1 for every 30,000 people. The National senate has senators equaling the number of representatives from each district, plus an additional 20 for each district.
A case can be appealed to the higher senates. There are currently 778 senators in the national senate.

Political Parties
Full listing of political parties
Saltha has a large spectrum of political parties with varying amounts of power.
Crime and punishment
Saltha have very few jails, used only for holding prisoners before trials. Saltha has never used jail time itself as a punishment. Instead punishment is in the form of forced labor, or lashes.
The 80 senators oversee criminal trials and must have a unanimous verdict to convict or acquit. The accused may appeal only once if a guilty result is given to a higher court of 280 senators (Including the 80 from the first trial). After a guilty result is confirmed (No appeal, or appeal fails) the local court then must unanimously decide on a penalty from the possible penalties listed below.
Punishments
Punishments vary depending on the age of the person and the crime committed. Generally fines. Minors may be publicly punished with a switching only after twice being turned over to a parent and then repeating the crime within a short enough time for minor crimes. A child may be punished the first time if the crime is serious enough causing bodily harm. Adults may be flogged.
An adult may be made to work to pay off a debt or for damage he has caused. There are strict laws on how these forced laborers or slaves can be treated and if treated poorly enough may be released. The death penalty is reserved for treason, intentional homicide or rape.
Divorce Law
While divoce is discouraged except without a good reason (like with indifelity) it is not illegal. It may be initiaed by either the man or the woman. If a man divorces his wife without giving a good reason then he must leave the household possestions to that wife and children. He is in essense severing all family ties with that household. If a woman divorces his husband without a good reqason ,then she must give half of her possestions, to be divided amongst the man's other wives and households.
Inheritence
As iwth most cultures, the first born inherits most of the possestions of his household, receiving half and rhe remaning male heirs dividing the other half. If a woman dies both the objects in her household and her children are "inherited" by another wife of the man.
