Tashnense (Salthan, "to kick") is a Salthan sport. The object of the game is to get the leather ball (about 3' dia.) in to one of the gates to score points, or for the defending team to move the ball out of bounds .

History

Waring States Period

Though no exact inventor is known for the game,  The game is thought to have originated as a means for the Waring city-states to have a source of conflict that was less fatal than wars or raids. At the start there were only five teams, each representing the five major clans. Later on lesser clans were allowed to form teams and compete.

Unified Kingdom

After the unification of the kingdom, the games lost their original purpose, but were because of the popularity continued as a popular sport. Many new teams were added, and patrons of particular pubs formed their own teams.

Playing the Game

The Field

A standard Tashnense field is 36 Ginany (150') wide and 53 Ginany Long (225'). A goal stands on one side of the field and is 6 Ginany (25') wide and 2 Ginany (8'4") tall.

The Teams

Each side consists of five players on the field at a time. Teams alternate between attack and defending positions in sets.

The Rules

Players move the ball with their feet or body. They are not allowed to hold or carry the ball. When a ball falls out of bounds on the sides, the attacking player looses an attempt. If the ball reaches the opposite goal area, then five attempts are taken away.  A team gets five attempts before sides are switched.

The game does allow some roughness, Pushing and shoving over with an open hand is allowed. Punching, grabbing and
